Arrived just before 12 oclock, a note on the reception door advised new arrivals to find a pitch and settle up later.
We proceeded to fill up the vans onboard water tank, before reversing onto pitch no 3. A large hardstanding, level .
After some lunch we set off for a walk to the Town, a quick look around Stuart Lowen ( farmers market ) shop and made a purchase of some biscuits, black pudding and duck eggs.
A short cut through the station leads to the seafront and then left to the high street. We are just intime to see a departing Steam Engine....fantastic.
The afternoon is spent in the awning sipping cups of tea and enjoying the local biscuits.
Minehead Station |
Dunster via Blue Anchor Bay and Carhampton. 9 miles.
Lesley looking towards Butlins |
The day started dull, the mist hanging over the Hills until mid day. We are sat having a coffee and an Easter biscuit purchased yesterday. Our view is across Dunster Beach towards Blue Anchor Bay. A steam train whistle can be heard behind some trees, heralds the departure from the station and our cue to end our rest and to continue our journey passing the little sheds ( beach huts).
Dunster Beach huts |
We find a bench which serves as a rest and a fine view of the Castle.
We lunch a mile further on by the river Avill crossing later via the ancient Gallox bridge and on through the town.
Dunster Market Hall |
Selworthy Beacon 10 miles.
Found this in the camera's menu "sketch mode" |
A boiled duck egg and Toast for breakfast first. The mist was covering the Hill tops as we walked the road to Bratton, passing Bratton Court we turn left, crossing a field of sheep to climb up onto the ridge that is Little Heddon Common. Selworthy is only 1 and 3/4 miles declared a signpost, as we climb over a style and start walking along a delightful lane that leads to Selworthy. Soon after we are sitting on a bench by the white washed church looking across the valley to Dunkery Beacon 519m which is just peeping above the mist, it all looks very surreal.
Selworthy Church |
11'z over we start the climb upto Selworthy Beacon 308 m, taking a break momentarily to catch our breaths on the memorial seat ( to lord Akland).
Memorial Seat |
Refreshed its a 40 min walk to our next stop overlooking woodcombe, we finish off the coffee and a snack before proceeding down to the church at Higher Town. The braken which usually hides all views has been burnt back to reveal the nakedness of North hill.
We arrive back at the campsite with the Sun still high in the sky, we take advantage of this unusually Sunny day, before having an early tea. We are surprised with a view of several Deer that have turned up on the ridge opposite.
